Prominent Trump 2016 supporter Caitlyn Jenner launches bid against California governor

Former reality TV star Caitlyn Jenner announced Friday that she would compete as a Republican in this year’s likely recall election against Gavin Newsom, California’s Democratic governor. Jenner, who would be the first transgender person elected statewide anywhere, has not sought office before, though she’s not completely new to politics.

Jenner was a vocal Donald Trump supporter in 2016, although Politico recently reported that she didn’t cast a ballot at all that year; Jenner also did not vote in 2018 when Newsom was elected governor. Jenner insisted in 2017 that, while Trump has “made some mistakes” on LGBTQ issues, she didn’t regret backing him, but she finally acknowledged the following year that she’d been wrong. That public break, however, didn’t stop Jenner from hiring multiple high-level Trump campaign personnel for her bid or accepting help from former Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale.

In addition to Jenner, the GOP field includes … Read the rest

What Happened to $16 Million Georgia’s Secretary of State’s Office Received Before the 2020 Election?

Before the 2020 Election, some very strange moves took place within the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office.  Why were these made and what happened to the millions in grants the office received?

We know that Georgia’s Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger has a propensity to not tell the truth:

Georgia Secretary of State Raffensperger Launched Investigation Into President Trump’s Phone Calls with the State after Lying About His Call and Trashing the Evidence

We also know Raffensperger’s main man, Gabe Sterling, also has problems with the truth:

Georgia Election Official Gabe Sterling Claims Processing was “Normal” At the State Farm Arena Election Night – Nothing Could Be Further from the Truth

Of course, Raffensperger and Sterling were involved in giving the state of Georgia to Joe Biden by 11,000 votes when still to this day, over 350,000 ballots were counted where their legally required chain of custody documentation is still … Read the rest

HUD revokes Trump-era policy that would have allowed shelters to discriminate against trans folks

Donald Trump’s Department of Housing and Urban Development secretary, Ben Carson, proposed a rule that would permit single-sex homeless shelters that receive taxpayer funding to discriminate against transgender people. As an example, the policy would have allowed shelters to bar transgender women from women’s shelters, effectively limiting transgender women to sharing bathrooms and sleeping spaces with cisgender men. The proposal would have also allowed staff to try and verify the unhoused person’s sex assigned at birth. Thankfully the rule never took effect. Even better is that the Biden administration is withdrawing the proposal altogether, as Housing Secretary Marcia Fudge announced on Thursday, as reported by The Washington Post

If you’re wondering where the initial transphobic proposal came from, it was likely in response to an inclusive effort from the Obama administration, when it was decided all programs funded by HUD would be open to all people—including transgender folks. And if there’s one scapegoat Republicans … Read the rest

Brazil's Bolsonaro makes the planet an offer it can't refuse … but they have to reject Bolsonaro

Nice planet you have there. It would be a shame if someone were to, say, burn down a region that holds the greatest biodiversity, plays host to thousands of endangered or not yet discovered species, and provides a home to ancient and isolated human cultures.

That’s not exactly what Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro said in his speech at President Joe Biden’s climate summit on Thursday, or the content of a proposal that Bolsonaro circulated to world leaders on Wednesday. But it certainly seems to be the implication. After falsely stating that he has worked to constrain the expansion of slash and burn agriculture and reduce illegal logging when his policies have explicitly encouraged the expansion of both, Bolsonaro said the world should provide “fair payment for the environmental services of our biomes to the planet.”

As The Wall Street Journal reports, Bolsonaro has put some numbers to what appears to many … Read the rest

Obama Adviser Valerie Jarrett Blasts Police for Deadly Shooting of Knife-Wielding Ma’Khia Bryant, Forgets What Barack Said About Knives and Guns in a Fight

Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett weighed in Wednesday on the police deadly shooting of a knife wielding Black teen girl, Ma’Khia Bryant, in Columbus, Ohio Tuesday afternoon, blasting police for shooting Bryant to “break up a knife fight.” Jarrett appears to have forgotten what Barack Obama once infamously said knives and guns in a fight.

“A Black teenage girl named Ma’Khia Bryant was killed because a police officer immediately decided to shoot her multiple times in order to break up a knife fight. Demand accountability. Fight for justice. #BlackLivesMatter.”

On June 13, 2008 as he ran for president, then Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) said at a campaign donor event … Read the rest

Vast majority of Americans agree with guilty verdict for Derek Chauvin in Floyd killing

A flash poll conducted in a three-hour window following the announcement of a guilty verdict for police officer Derek Chauvin in the killing of George Floyd found that the vast majority of Americans agreed with the jury’s conclusion.

In the Ipsos poll conducted for USA Today, 71{1b1a587643a9e9b1244ae3f96d242e13c62224c25ebdf73114e48122c41a7985} of respondents said they agreed with the finding that Chauvin was guilty, and 62{1b1a587643a9e9b1244ae3f96d242e13c62224c25ebdf73114e48122c41a7985} said they planned on simply accepting the verdict with no further action.

Chauvin was found guilty on all three felony counts charged against him in the death of Floyd after kneeling on his neck for more than nine minutes: second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter.

Although higher numbers of Democrats and independents agreed with the guilty verdict, 85{1b1a587643a9e9b1244ae3f96d242e13c62224c25ebdf73114e48122c41a7985} and 71{1b1a587643a9e9b1244ae3f96d242e13c62224c25ebdf73114e48122c41a7985} respectively, a 55{1b1a587643a9e9b1244ae3f96d242e13c62224c25ebdf73114e48122c41a7985} majority of Republicans also did.

But the public was divided on Chauvin’s motivation for the killing, with 40{1b1a587643a9e9b1244ae3f96d242e13c62224c25ebdf73114e48122c41a7985} saying he was guilty of murder while … Read the rest

WTH? Joe Biden to Give Speech Following Derek Chauvin Verdict

Politicians are going all out in their effort to intimidate the jury in the Derek Chauvin trial — and now President Joe Biden has announced that he will be giving a speech following the verdict.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Monday that Biden is expected to deliver remarks after the jury delivers their verdict, but has declined to provide further specifics about what he intends to say.

Biden has previously said that George Floyd was “murdered,” and on Tuesday said that he is “praying for the right verdict.”

“It’s overwhelming, in my view,” Biden said of the evidence against Chauvin in the Oval Office, where he was meeting with Hispanic lawmakers. “I wouldn’t say that unless the jury was sequestered.”

On Monday, Biden also called the late drug addict’s family members.

“I can only imagine the pressure and the anxiety that they’re feeling,” he said. “They’re a good

Manchin says Republicans will help on infrastructure. Graham is busy working out how to kill it

Sen. Joe Manchin continues to insist that there will be 10 Republicans willing to help Democrats on getting anything passed in the Senate if Democrats are just nice enough to them, Republican senators are not spending their time talking to their colleagues about common ground. Even on infrastructure, the bill with the most potential for really great stuff they can bring home for their constituents. No, with the bill still in the earliest drafting phases where good-faith Republicans could be having valid input, they’re plotting all the ways to derail it.

“It’s a target rich environment,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham, the top Republican member on the Senate Budget Committee. “There are a lot of problems.” That’s because of Democrats’ intent to use budget reconciliation, the process that lets legislation pass with simple majority votes, not subject to the filibuster. That advantage comes with some strict procedural rules about what’s allowed … Read the rest
